Gecko Sri Lanka is a UK registered charity founded in the aftermath of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami by a group of second generation Sri Lankan students.

Over the years we have deepened our relationship with Sri Lanka through our projects, volunteering experiences (and holidays), and with each other through our social fundraising events.

We have supported a wide range of projects from building a house for a family displaced by the tsunami to equipping a new Intensive Care Unit in a peadiatric hospital.  We like to use personal contacts wherever possible, and to form relationships with our beneficiaries.  Members of our committee always check on the projects personally – visiting the sites, looking at the receipts and meeting and talking with the beneficiaries directly.

Our fundraising events have as much variety as our projects – ranging from fashion shows, to pub quizzes, to our annual family-friendly cricket tournament: The Gecko Sixes.

If you would like to get involved, donate or find out more, please email us at geckosrilanka@gmail.com, comment on this blog, follow us on twitter @geckosrilanka or look up our facebook group ‘Gecko Sri Lanka’.
