Happy Sri Lankan New Year!

by Semini

Happy Sri Lankan New Year from all of us here at Gecko! Or perhaps more appropriately I should say Puthandu Vazthakkul or Suba Aluth Avuruddak Wewa! (Please forgive my questionable spelling…)

I’ve been asked several times today why we celebrate New Year in April, and I’m not sure my feeble explanations of “something to do with the sun” have been too convincing. What I DO know however is that it is a brilliant time to celebrate being Sri-Lankan. Even more importantly, it is an excuse to eat yummy Sri-Lankan food like Kiribath (milk rice).

Whatever you’ve been doing today, hope you’ve had a chance to celebrate the dawning of a new year; be it by taking a break from work/revision/real life or just by eating lots!
